One Box in 7 Days: Start Organizing Your LEGO Parts

Organize one box of LEGO parts without cataloging your entire collection. Create a free account and begin the 7-day challenge with your own warehouse.

You do not have to catalog your entire collection to start getting your LEGO parts under control. All you need is one box, a few minutes a day, and a simple system that reflects the way you actually store your elements.

“One Box in 7 Days” is a short BricksIndex challenge. Each day, you complete one small step: create your own warehouse, add a location, record your first parts, check a set, and label a container with a QR code. Today begins with the most important decision — choosing just one box.

Why start with one box?

The most common mistake when organizing LEGO parts is trying to plan everything at once. A large collection can quickly turn good intentions into a project that takes many hours. This challenge works differently: the scope is deliberately small, and every day ends with a visible result.

  • you do not have to move your entire collection,
  • you do not need a perfect naming system immediately,
  • you can test BricksIndex with a real example,
  • after one week, you will know whether this method saves you time.

One completed box is more useful than an elaborate plan that was never implemented.

Day 1: choose a box and create your own warehouse

Choose a container you use regularly. It can be a box of basic bricks, parts for MOCs, elements from dismantled sets, or a small drawer of frequently used items.

Next, create a free BricksIndex account. Use your own warehouse for the challenge so that its name, locations, and the elements you add later remain saved throughout all seven days. After registering, create a warehouse and give it the same name you use for the selected box at home.

A good warehouse name

The name should be short and unambiguous. Instead of “Bricks,” choose a name that will still point to the correct container after several weeks, for example:

  • “Box by the desk,”
  • “MOC parts — gray,”
  • “Shelf A — loose bricks,”
  • “Workshop drawers.”

Do not create an extensive location tree yet. Today is only about connecting one real box with one warehouse of your own in the system.

When is today's task complete?

You can consider day one complete when:

  1. you have chosen one physical box,
  2. you have created a free BricksIndex account or signed in to an existing account,
  3. you have created your own warehouse and given it a name you can easily associate with the real place.

You do not need to count parts, separate them by color, or copy catalog numbers today. Those steps will come later, once the structure is clear.

What will happen over the next few days?

In the next stages, you will add a specific location, record five frequently used elements, check whether you can find them quickly, review the inventory of a selected set, and prepare a QR label. On the final day, you will return to the warehouse and check whether the path from search to the correct box is genuinely shorter.

Each stage should take only a few minutes. If a task feels too large, reduce the scope — the purpose of the challenge is to build a useful habit, not to finish your entire collection in one week.

Start now

Choose one box and give it a permanent digital counterpart. Create a free account, set up your own warehouse, and keep your progress for the next days of the challenge.
